The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW) is a unit of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) responsible for providing aviation support to the II Marine Expeditionary Force. It is based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina and was activated on July 1, 1940.
The 2nd MAW is composed of over 10,000 active-duty Marines and sailors, and is equipped with a variety of fixed-wing and rotary aircraft, including F/A-18 Hornet and AV-8B Harrier attack aircraft, MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, and KC-130 Hercules aerial refueling aircraft.
The mission of the 2nd MAW is to provide combat-ready aircraft and personnel to support the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and other joint and allied forces. In addition to conducting combat operations, the 2nd MAW also engages in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
The 2nd MAW has a proud history of service in many conflicts, including World War II, the Korean War, the Gulf War, and the War on Terror. Its motto is "Second to None" and it continues to play a vital role in the defense of the United States and its interests around the world.
